Author Vivien Johnson will be joined in conversation with Wendy Bacon to discuss The Last Resort and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Marrickville Women's Refuge. All profit made from the event will be donated to the refuge too!
About The Author:
Vivien Johnson is a writer, teacher, researcher, curator and pioneering advocate for recognition of Indigenous art as contemporary Art and then for Indigenous cultural and intellectual property rights. She has published 11 books including Radio Birdman (1990) and foundational monographs on Western Desert artists Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri (1993) and Michael Jagamara Nelson (1997). Her most recent work is Wangka Wakanutja : The Story of the Papunya Literature Production Centre at the National Library of Australia till January 31 2027. The Last Resort : a women’s refuge was her first book. Originally published by Penguin in 1981 it has been described as the manifesto of the 1970s…
