About The Event
Welcome to Australia's largest regular poetry slam! This month, the last Tuesday (when we usually have the slam) is a public holiday, so BPS will be on a Monday! Whaaaaaat???
Hopefully this means that if you've been missing out on our events, because Tuesday is when you walk your plants, then April is your time to shine!
This month's feature artist is the always incredible, and recently published (again!!) Omar Sakr! Here is a little (but not all) of what makes him so special:
Omar Sakr is the son of Arab and Turkish Muslim migrants. He is the author of three poetry collections, including The Lost Arabs (UQP), which won the 2020 Prime Minister's Literary Award for Poetry, and a novel, Son of Sin (Affirm Press), published in 2022. His latest book is Non-Essential Work. He lives and works on Dharug land, where he was born and raised. His new poetry collection, Non-Essential work, is OUT NOW!! If you want to grab your copy before the slam, go to: https://www.uqp.com.au/books/n... See you soon!
AAAND, for rules on participating in the slam, please see below.
🍉 If you are intending to sign up to perform at the slam, please book a ticket and sign up to perform at the door. We are no longer offering free artist tickets but if you you have special circumstances/are experiencing financial difficulty and need tickets, please email us!
🍉 We've changed our ticket provider to Humanitix! They give 100% of profits to education projects. If you have any feedback about the change from Eventbrite, let us know via DM or email.
🍉 Regular slam rules apply: No age restrictions/ 3 minute time limit/ no props or music/ poetry must be your original work.
🍉 The top 4 scoring artists will be granted a spot at the Grand Slam.
Poetry aficionados, appreciators of HipHop and literature that beats with a thunderous heart — you absolutely do not want to miss this!
