About The Event

As a nurse for nearly fifty years, Keith Cox provided care and comfort to countless people facing the unimaginable. A Caring Life is the first-hand account of his remarkable life and career; from his childhood in Cullerin, regional NSW, starting as a trainee nurse in 1970 and graduating as just one of three registered male nurses in 1978, all the way through to present day – even in retirement, Keith continues to promote advancement in nursing and cancer care through dedicated volunteer work.

Written with Keith’s close friend, journalist Grant Jones, A Caring Life is full of moving stories of hope, determination and loss. Over the years, Keith has witnessed dramatic advances in medical treatment, and also the limits of what medical intervention can achieve. His rich life experiences saw him make compassion and grace his guiding principles, both on the ward and in his own life.

With an enduring legacy in cancer care at Sydney’s RPA Hospital, Keith has also worked in London’s top hospitals, mentored cancer nurses in developing nations and is a sought-after lecturer on cancer-patient care. A true nursing trailblazer, Keith’s story showcases the value of human connection, kindness and the satisfaction of living a life of service and meaning.

Keith Cox is a highly qualified nurse who has dedicated 50 years of his life to patient care, mentoring cancer nurses, writing research papers and addressing medical conferences around the world. In 2006, he was the third-ever Australian to become a cancer nurse practitioner and in 2007 he was awarded an OAM for his services to nursing and community volunteer work. Keith remains involved with various fundraising committees and charitable organisations, and he volunteers in several capacities.

Grant Jones is a former newspaper and radio journalist, editor and TV researcher and producer, with more than three decades' experience. He now runs his own media consultancy business. Grant lives in Drummoyne with his partner, Joan, and their teenage son, Louis. Grant joins Keith, who lives a few blocks away, at their local gym three times a week. This is his first book.

Please join us at 6pm for drinks and nibbles, for a 6:30pm start. Bookings essential.
