About The Event
Our world is in chaos lol. And no, Australian Millennials, it’s not your imagination: things are especially f**ked for us. Millions of Baby Boomers got beach houses, free education, jobs for life and a franking credit-fed retirement. But Millennials have been handed a housing crisis, crippling student debt, the gig economy, a cooked planet, a truly broken political system and now wars, inflation and a global pandemic, as a treat. This fully sucks. But never fear – this book is going to fix everything. Through the power of jokes, history, interviews and sass, so-called comedian Tom Ballard unpicks how his generation got here, and explains why we should probably do a revolution. Fact-filled and furiously funny, this is a must-read not just for young people wondering why they’ve been given such a raw deal, but for anyone with an interest in how we’re making our collective future impossible.
Tom Ballard is an award-winning comedian, broadcaster, philanthropist and virtue-signaller. He pretended to be cool on the triple j breakfast show for years, then went on to perform stand-up all over the world and front his own naughty late-night show for #theirABC, Tonightly with Tom Ballard. (The program was cancelled because it was too funny). He’s also guest hosted Q&A for some reason, and since 2015 he’s sat down with everyone from Lyle Shelton to Yassmin Abdel-Magied for his political interview podcast Like I’m A Six-Year-Old.
Jan Fran is a Walkley-winning journalist, TV Presenter and social commentator. Jan is the creator, writer and presenter of the online opinion segment, The Frant, which has been viewed more than 25 million times on social media and earned Jan a 2019 Walkley Award for Best Commentary, Analysis, Opinion and Critique. Jan co-hosts Question Everything alongside Wil Anderson on ABC TV and appears regularly on The Project on Network TEN. She was also the co-host of SBS’ The Feed for two years. She currently presents The Briefing podcast on the LiSTNR platform and was the host of series 4 and 5 of The Pineapple Project for ABC Audio. Jan has written for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age and has appeared as a commentator on Q+A, The Today Show, Studio 10, ABC Breakfast, The Latest and The Drum. Jan has shot and produced documentaries from all over the world. She’s lived in Lebanon, France, Bangladesh and Uganda and speaks three languages, most of them terribly. Jan is an ambassador for Plan International Australia where she advocates for women and girls and her strong reporting on women’s issues also earned her a 2018 Walkley nomination for Women’s Leadership in Media.
