About The Event
This book is an invitation to look beyond the surface of a demanding sport and into the heart of a unique community. The images within capture the athletes of the Sydney Silverbacks, a club dedicated to the intense, dynamic discipline of Olympic Freestyle wrestling.
The Sydney Silverbacks Wrestling Club is an LGBTQIA+ and straight-friendly, not-for-profit community sporting club based in Sydney, Australia.
Michael Oelofse is a Sydney-based photographer, filmmaker, and artist, and co-author of Sydney Silverbacks: Photography and the Art of Wrestling.
Ari Burkhart has traught, trained, and competed in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Freestyle Wrestling for over twenty years. They are a former Australian National Champion in the 57kg Women's Freestyle Wrestling division, qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and are a Black Belt in jiu jitsu. They are a member of the Sydney Silverbacks and sit on the board of NSW Wrestling.
