About The Event
A compelling and compassionate debut novel about friendship, love, family, faith, and identity.
Shortlisted for the 2020 Kill Your Darlings Unpublished Manuscript Award.
Abomination follows atheist Ezra and ultra-Orthodox rabbi Yonatan, estranged friends whose lives reconnect following a protest calling to extradite a child-sex predator from Israel – Rabbi Hirsch, a teacher at Yahel Academy, the school they attended twenty years ago.Â
The novel is a story of dichotomy, of two men, once inseparable, who have lived very different lives – one a life of faithful observance, the other of growing faithlessness. Bound by friendship but separated by the consequences of a terrible violation – everything they thought they knew is challenged as both characters wrestle with issues of faith, fidelity, sexuality and identity as they search for meaning and purpose.
